Weird

Friday, February 29th, 2008
Tonight’s show was weird.  Not bad, but weird.  The crowd was really solid all night long, but there was a weird energy in the room.  I don’t know how to describe it.  I think the show still went much better than expected (not that expectations were low).

Sorry for the $6 cover.  I know I said it would only be 5, but the Atlantic does 6 for all their shows now and I didn’t know until it was too late.

Thanks for comin out everyone!

Sorry to have been remiss in my blog duties

Friday, February 22nd, 2008
Many of you may have noticed the significant decrease in Eric’s random daily routine stupid blogs.  Well, this is because I have found other outlets for these (as a result of  many of your complaints about the infamous cereal blog).

However, I feel that we should still share with each other, no?

First and most impressively: One of our chickens laid an egg today!  I know that’s what they’re supposed to do, but it’s still damn cool.  We bought the chickens as 3 day old chicks and have raised them, endured a hawk attack, and nurtured them for over 6 months, anticipating this very day.

Mid morning brought an unusually loud bizarre clucking from the henhouse and sure enough when I went out to check on them, there was one lone brown egg sitting in a nest made out of hay.

Second and least impressively:  I went to the gym today to swim, but forgot my towel, so I had to work out on the elliptical instead.  I have never used an elliptical.  For the first 5 minutes, I looked like a total spaz and even managed to somehow start running backwards on it without trying to.  This isn’t the only stupid observation, though.  The gym always has an MTV style channel playing on their half dozen TV sets and it’s typically what you’d expect, mindless pop and musclehead new rock or whatever.  Yet, today, they played “How Bizarre” by OMC.

This song is terrible.  It has always been terrible, and it always will be terrible.  Why are they still playing it?  The most notable thing about them playing this song, however, is that the gym I used to go to when this song came out always played the damn song too.  That was like 10 years ago.  Can we agree to move on when it comes to some songs?

I think it’s time.

On last night’s show

Sunday, February 10th, 2008
The night started out mellow.  Downtown was kinda quiet, load in was laid back, and all the bands we played with were good friends.

The show started off kinda slow.  The Michael Claytor Trio played some sweet mellow bluegrass, and the crowd was slowly trickling in.  I mean, there were like 30 people, but it was still early, right?

Still, maybe 40 people.  It was approaching 11.  I was starting to worry.  “Don’t worry.  The Shitty Beatles always do well,” I assured our friend, Vince, who came from out of town to join the bill.  Still, I was worried.

Then, around 11, people started flowing in the door.  “There’s a line down the block,” the promoter told me.  “Well, god damn hurry up and let the people in.” I said.

Sure enough, people just kept coming and coming.  All in all, 353 people paid to see our hour and a half set of all Beatles tunes.  Despite the enormous crowd, we felt the show was awesome on its own because it was probably one of the best performance we’ve ever had as the Shitty Beatles!  Everything aligned.  Playing at Market Street was like visiting an old friend who we hadn’t seen in years.  The sound guy, Rick was super nice and did a great job with the sound and lights.  And the crowd was extremely into every single song.

At times, I felt like we were cheating by playing someone else’s already popular music, but I do think we did a spot on rendition of the songs we played.

Even Collin mustered up the strength to rock his ass off despite having the flu and barely being able to move earlier in the day.

So, many many thanks to everyone who came out, and as you all yelled for at the show, we’ll do this again soon!
